Alyssa's boo boo
Okay, I know kids get hurt. It's part of growing up and I'm going to have to accept that. Still, it is horrible when it happens. This evening, Alyssa was crawling around on the tile in the kitchen. She was holding a dish towel and somehow tripped and fell on her face. She cried like she's never cried before. You know, that long inhale and then the dreaded scream of pain. Well, this was much worse, and that inhale and scream lasted a long time! I looked for blood and watched to see if her hands touched where the pain was coming from. Nothing. I kept waiting and finally I discovered what was hurting her so much. Blood started to trickle from her screaming mouth. Alyssa bit the inside of her upper lip. I panicked inside....do I take her to the ER? Should I call the pediatrician? ( No, it's too late. They'll charge me $20 since it's after office hours.) Okay, calm down Alyssa and me and take some deep breaths. Ten minutes later, after some Tylenol, ice, and a call to Grandma, Alyssa was playing and smiling. Needless to say, her upper lip is swollen and she looks like a duck, but we survived.
First blog
It's just another week for the Voxland's . James is extremely busy at work and I've got lots on my plate these days. I started graduate school this month. I'm getting my master's degree in curriculum and instruction at Dallas Baptist University. It's strange to be back in school, but this is a good time in my life to start this chapter.
Alyssa is so busy these days. She's just about given up her morning nap which means I have to think of more and more ways to keep her entertained. We have been heading to the park every morning the past week. She loves the swings and is bound and determined to climb on the playground equipment. I know it won't be long before she's walking. Her balance and coordination are getting better everyday. It's amazing to me that she just started crawling two months ago!
I'm so excited that it's FALL! This is my favorite time of the year and I can't wait to get out my fall decorations and wear fall clothing. I'm looking forward to taking Alyssa to pumpkin patches, the sun going down early, and cooking hot dinners when it's getting chilly outside. Too bad everything is still green and the air is still hot and humid.
Tonight is "girls' club". I'm passing down the "girls' club" tradition to Alyssa. When my sister and I were kids, my mom would call an evening with just the girls, "girls' club." We would do something special just the three of us. James is going to a men's fellowship outing tonight and Alyssa and I are on our own. We're going to make pizza for dinner and possibly take a walk. After that, I have about 200 pages to read. Fun times!
